Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling and Drug Abuse Contest posters from students all over Sullivan County were hung up for everyone to admire before the Poster Contest Awards Ceremony at the Government Center in Monticello.
MONTICELLO — More than 400 students county-wide in grades 1 through 12, entered art work in the 22nd Annual Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling and Drug Abuse Poster Contest hosted by the Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan.
Nearly 50 of those same students were selected and honored this past Friday afternoon during the Poster Contest Awards Ceremony, held in the lobby at the Government Center in Monticello.
The students created and entered posters of all varieties, each bearing the same important message: “Life is a wonderland, don't miss it ... when choosing to be alcohol, tobacco, gambling and drug free.

Students were awarded Honorable Mention, Third, Second and First Place prizes in their grade categories of 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12.
During the ceremony, three students were called to stand next to their posters that had been framed and displayed near the podium.
Nero Edwards, who attends second grade at Livingston Manor Central School, was announced as the Grand Prize Winner in English; Diana Martinez Escalante, who is in ninth grade at Fallsburg Junior Senior High School, was announced as the Grand Prize Winner in Spanish, and Mariah Westbrook, a 10th grader from Livingston Manor Central School, was announced as the Digital Grand Prize Winner.
