Catherine Peters of Kenoza Lake, a student at NYU, is raising money to shoot a film in our area.
JEFFERSONVILLE — Catherine Peters, an NYU drama student at the Tisch School of the Arts, is raising money to shoot an independent film project in Jeffersonville.
The 2011 graduate of Sullivan West HS described “Barnburner” as a short film about a young girl from upstate New York trying to become a boxer while simultaneously raising her younger brother. It's a story about persistence in life and learning how to roll with all the punches it throws.
Peters is the daughter of Gary and Nancy Peters of Kenoza Lake. She has studied acting at the New Studio on Broadway, Stonestreet Film Acting School, and the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.
The inspiration for the film comes from Peters' grandfather, Liberato “Libby” Manzolillo, who was also a boxer.

She's also inspired by at least one other Sullivan County native who went on to become a filmmaker - editor Zac Stuart-Pontier, formerly of Narrowsburg. “I saw his work and thought ‘If he can do it, why can't I?'” said Peters.
Before she and her crew can start filming on location April 25-28, Peters needs to raise $4,500 to finance the production. Anyone interested in donating can go to http://igg.me/at/barnburner. Depending on the size of the contribution, donators will receive production stills, a DVD copy of the film or executive producer credit.
