NACL Theatre will perform their newest play “El Viento” in front of the historic Callicoon Train Depot at the Callicoon Art Walk on Saturday, October 6.
The Callicoon ArtWalk will be showcasing the growing art and music scene in the picturesque hamlet of Callicoon on the Delaware. The event, to be held tomorrow, October 6 from noon to 8 p.m., will highlight the arts in unconventional spaces throughout the hamlet including storefronts and public spaces.
Nearly every small business will display a visual artist of some kind. A map will be available at participating retailers and galleries highlighting the locations of exhibiting artists.
Main Street merchants will be open from noon until 8 p.m. A percentage of sales will benefit the Callicoon Business Association's events fund.
The Callicoon ArtWalk is a platform for showcasing local art and music, along with featuring select artists from New York City and abroad. It is a major force for developing cultural initiatives in Callicoon and the county.
NACL Streets Troupe will perform their newest play “El Viento” in front of the historic Callicoon Train Depot. The stilt theatre is directed by Tannis Kowalchuk, and features an ensemble of stilt walkers and actors. The performance is a 10-minute musical about immigration and the crossing of borders.
The Callicoon Theater will present a short film series at noon, curated by local artist Elizabeth Ennis, and featuring work by Lisa Crafts, Michel Negroponte, Xeth Feinberg, Tessa Hughes-Freeland and Guy Madden.
The Callicoon Train Depot Station will serve as the main stage all day, presenting performances from the Catskill Dance Company, LAVA Acrobatic Dance Company (Callicoon's newest performers/residents), as well as live music from Captain Magic, Banjo Don and Shlomo Franklin, to name a few.
Vendors will be featured at the depot and on The Western Terrace on Upper Main Street. Festivities will continue into the evening starting at 7 p.m. with an after party with DJ Tomas at The Western Terrace and live music at the Callicoon Brewery.
This year will also feature Activating Callicoon: Algorithmic Landscapes of the Western Catskills, which explores the relationship between landscape and technology through temporary pavilions, performances, actions, projections and new media. The artists for Activating Callicoon are curated by architecture critic Stephen Zacks, with support from the non-profit Amplifier Inc., which connects under-served groups and smaller cities with the global art and design field.
At 5 p.m. the Callicoon Pub Crawl will feature specials on the region's best ales, ciders and wines at the Callicoon Brewing Company, The Western, Matthews on Main and Peppino's. The pub crawl will offer tastings from local breweries and distilleries, including Catskill Brewery, Roscoe Brewery, Catskill Distillery and Eminence Wines, to name a few. Hot cider will be available at various locations to welcome visitors.

Come to Callicoon for a weekend of live music, performance, fine art and more.
