“Long/Gone” paper-cut shadow show with live music at DVAA

By: Contributed Photo
Over 100 feet in length, “Long/Gone” is a single intricately-cut piece of paper that flows freely from image to image, while narratives and scenarios (drawn from classic works of literature from Homer to Dante) emerge, collapse, and spill over and into each other.
NARROWSBURG - On Saturday, February 29 at 2 p.m., DVAA's free winter Salon Series continues with “Long/Gone” an epic and immersive paper-cut shadow show with live music performed by Philadelphia-based printmaker, shadow puppeteer, and paper-cut artist Erik Ruin and harpist Jesse Sparhawk.
Over 100 feet in length, “Long/Gone” is a single intricately-cut piece of paper that flows freely from image to image, while narratives and scenarios (drawn from classic works of literature from Homer to Dante) emerge, collapse, and spill over and into each other. Multi-instrumentalist and composer Jesse Sparhawk will provide a live soundtrack on harp. Philly Voice calls it “stark, intricate and wondrous - Ruin's paper-cut art combines the enthralling fantasy of a storybook with the prismatic, fragmented beauty of a stained-glass window.

The Salon Series continues Saturday, March 7 with multi-instrumentalist Kevin Graham, and wraps up on Saturday, March 28 with storyteller Jonathan Charles Fox's one man show “Life in the Past Lane.”
DVAA is located at 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg and the events will take place at 2 p.m. on the second floor in the intimate Krause Recital Hall.
Admission is free, and donations are appreciated. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Schedule is subject to change due to weather and circumstances beyond our control. Please call ahead to confirm each event.
