Despite the stormy skies, hundreds of people came out for Monticello's National Night Out on Tuesday.
MONTICELLO — Hundreds of people took to the streets of Monticello on Tuesday for the celebration of National Night Out - “an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, better places to live.”
Similar events were held in Callicoon and South Fallsburg.
Sponsors of the Monticello event included Monticello Police Department, Monticello PBA, the Village of Monticello, Catholic Charities and the Miss Monticello Diner.
The evening started with a parade led by units from the Monticello and Liberty police departments along with Rock Hill EMS, and other marchers.
The event featured live music, face painting, bounce houses by Party Master, games, hotdogs, snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn and other treats, all free of charge.
Community policing was in evidence as the Monticello Police and officers from other districts spent time talking with many members of the community, especially seeking out the children.

"This event is all about building partnerships between members of law enforcement and the community which we serve,” said Monticello Police Chief Robert Mir. “While planning this event we had the opportunity to work with different organizations, businesses, elected officials and ordinary citizens with the same common goal. We were successful, made some new friends and everyone had a good time."
