“Narrowsburg” delves into the story of a French film producer and a mafioso-turned-actor who attempted to turn our tiny town in Sullivan County, NY into the “Sundance of the East.”
NARROWSBURG - The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance's Big Eddy Film Festival will present an online screening of Martha Shane's documentary “Narrowsburg” starting starting on at 7 pm on Saturday, May 30, and will host a conversation with the director (and other special guests) on Facebook Live on Sunday, May 31 at 7 p.m.
“Narrowsburg” delves into the story of a French film producer and a mafioso-turned-actor who attempted to turn our tiny town in Sullivan County, NY into the “Sundance of the East.” Persuading townspeople that they could be movie stars, the pair created a fever pitch of excitement, launching a film festival in 1999 and shooting a gangster movie. Twenty years after this stranger-than-fiction tale took place, director Martha Shane interviews those personally involved to create a documentary that exposes the power of cinema and the fine line between dreams and delusions.
Check DVAA's Facebook page for information to access the film starting Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.
m., and continuing through Sunday, May 31 at 11:59 p.m.
“Narrowsburg” will be distributed this summer by Gravitas Ventures. The film made its New York premiere at the 2019 Big Eddy Film Festival.
The screening is part of “DVAA Live @ Home,” an online series featuring arts events on Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live. To learn more about DVAA's upcoming programming, visit www.delwarevalleyartsalliance.org.
