SULLIVAN COUNTY — Acting District Attorney Meagan K. Galligan announced that Jose Vences, 23, of Ellenville, and Everett Nolan, 21, of Hurleyville, have both been sentenced before the Sullivan County Court to aggregate terms of incarceration of 8.5 years, to be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, for their participation in the burglary of a storage building on private property in the Town of Fallsburg. Vences and Nolan both entered guilty pleas to Burglary in the Third Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree last October, admitting that they illegally entered the building and stole items, including guns and an ATV. An investigation headed by detectives at the Town of Fallsburg Police Department recovered many of the items stolen and led to the arrests of Vences and Nolan. Vences was sentenced on December 27, 2019; Nolan was sentenced on February 14, 2020. Both men are responsible for the repayment of restitution to the victim of these crimes.

Galligan said, “The sentences imposed in this case underscore my Office's commitment to justice. These defendants violated the sacred right of this victim to keep secure his property, including his lawfully possessed firearms. The violation of this victim's privacy and of his lawful exercise of his right to bear arms will not be tolerated, and by the sentences imposed the individuals who invaded that right for their own criminal purposes have been held accountable and responsible for their crimes. I will continue to advocate for victim's rights and public safety.” Galligan thanked Detectives Hartman and Pavese and all members of the Town of Fallsburg Police Department who participated in this investigation for their professionalism and dedication to this case.
