Plane makes a splash in Toronto Reservoir

WHITE LAKE — Emergency responders were alerted to reports of a low-flying plane over the Toronto Reservoir in the Town of Bethel that looked to be in distress on Tuesday afternoon. But what was thought to be a crash landing was actually a planned landing by the pilot.

At around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, White Lake Fire Company was dispatched to a possible aircraft emergency in the area of 137 Sunset Point in Chapin Estates on the reservoir.

Kauneonga Lake Fire Department was requested to the scene with their boat to assist. Operations were set up at the public access on Moscoe Road where a boat was launched as well as a drone launch from White Lake to give a different vantage point.

The boat quickly located the plane and found no signs of distress and a planned landing of what looked to be a sea plane landing in their back lawn.

All units were back in service around 3:30 p.m. Also responding to the scene were Bethel EMS, Bethel Constables, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police.
