MONTICELLO — A last minute addition to the agenda at Thursday's full board meeting of the Sullivan County Legislature was passed unanimously by the legislators. The resolution was a memorandum of agreement between the county and the Division of Public Works (DPW) Supervisory Unit.

“We've been negotiating with the DPW Supervisory Unit, which is represented by the Teamsters Local 445,” said Human Resources Director Lynda Levine. “[They] got back to us late in the afternoon on Monday saying the Teamsters supervisors were in favor.”

The agreement addresses compensation for the 13 or 14 members in that unit. The contract goes until the end of December 2021, and includes a two percent pay increase for 2018 through 2020 and a two and one half percent increase in 2021.

Levine said the contract is in line with the county's contract with the Laborers' International Union (LIU). “That's very similar to the compensation package that we agreed to with the LIU,” Levine told the legislators. “There are a couple other changes to the agreement, which brings their working hours in line with the working hours of the LIU.”

Public hearing set for Monticello tax law

The legislators set a public hearing on the adoption of Section 485-a of the Real Property Tax Law on the county level. It would provide tax abatements for eligible mixed-use properties in the Village of Monticello.

The public hearing will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 9:50 a.m. at the Government Center.

The proposed law was presented and discussed in April during the meeting of the Planning, Community Development, Real Property and Capital Planning and Budget Committee meeting.

It relates to the Planning Department, Village of Monticello and Town of Thompson wanting to create more business in Monticello, specifically on Broadway. Many buildings have potential to have businesses on the main floor with apartments above it.

Airport receives grant for improvements

The New York State Department of Transportation Airport Improvement and Revitalization Program has offered a grant to rehabilitate a county-owned hangar at the Sullivan County International Airport.

The grant is available in the amount of $421,000 where the 90% state share is $378,900 and the 10% local share would be $42,100.

A resolution to accept the grant was introduced by the Public Works Committee and the legislators voted in favor unanimously.
