LIBERTY -- The Youth Economic Group has found a temporary space for their organization. The group is currently renting the building that is located next to their old office, which is on Main Street in Liberty.

Previously, they used the building owned by the United Methodist Church that was used as a parsonage. At the end of June, the building was sold to a private owner, which lead the Youth Economic Group to find a new space.

“At the moment [the owner] is very kind and is letting us stay until we need,” Youth Economic Group Coordinator Juanita Sarmiento said. The temporary space is being rented to the group until the building is sold, and the Youth Economics Group is in the process of searching for a permanent building. “We have had a lot of people banding together to help us search,” said Sarmiento.

Sarmiento stressed how vital programs like the Youth Economic Group are to the community, as they help adolescents gain valuable experience in a business setting. The organization supports programs for women, immigrants and farmers while also giving high school students the resources to run their own business, Bags for Justice.

Members of the community can come support the Youth Economic Group and their efforts to fundraise for a permanent building on Saturday, July 20 for the organization's car wash. The fundraiser will be held at the Liberty Trading Post from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $15 for cars, and $20 for trucks. In addition to the car wash, there will be an arts and crafts section for kids, which has a $2 suggested donation.
