KAUNEONGA LAKE — Good deeds - and donations - were flowing from Mysteryland on Saturday, more than a month before the electronic music festival arrives at Bethel Woods with up to 30,000 attendees in tow.

Saturday's gathering at the Bethel Town Park on Old White Lake Turnpike near the county airport was a smaller affair, though still featuring DJ'd music and a group of energetic people from all over the country.

According to Mysteryland Sustainability Manager Tennille Wilfur, approximately 50 volunteers selected from 1,000 applicants spent the day raking, clearing and mulching at the town park, cleaning out the pool and even constructing and painting a 10'x10' utility shed.

They were rewarded with lunch from Sorella Pizzeria and Restaurant in Kauneonga Lake - and free tickets to Mysteryland's Memorial Day Weekend bash.

But the Town of Bethel itself got more than a spruced-up park - Supervisor Dan Sturm

was presented with a $10,000 donation from Mysteryland Project Manager Brian Tamke, to be used by the Bethel Local Development Corporation towards yet-to-be-determined community initiatives.

“It's a beautiful community that gives back to us as much as we do to them,” said Tamke.

And the giving didn't stop there. Sullivan County United Way Executive Director Kaytee Warren was delighted to receive $1,500 from Mysteryland's community liaison, Kristin Simmons, after a successful online fundraising effort in March.
