Forestburgh project moves forward

FORESTBURGH — After the tragic passing of Andrew Unterberg, the proprietor of Another Sky Campground in March, there was uncertainty on what will happen to the project.

At a recent town board meeting, Richard Robbins Chairperson of the Planning Board for Forestburgh said that he received a letter from the widow, Alana Unterberg, stating she will be going forward with the project on the previous Forestburgh Golf Course located on Tannery Road.

“There is no concern or question that they are going forward,” said Robbins. Currently there is no timeline on the completion of the project but according to Robbins he believes no earlier than next year for some kind of movement on the campground.

Unterberg who fell in love with Forestburgh had previously stated that, “We fell in love with Forestburgh, it's one of the few places that has preserved its natural beauty. We want to provide a place for people to get outdoors on their own terms.”

The campgrounds will offer naturalistic activities for campers, such as hiking and guided nature walks to reconnect with the outside. There will be places for campers to mingle over a bonfire in the common area. All tents will be private and campers and families can join the activities that will be curated by the campgrounds if the campers do incline to do so.

There will also be a swimming pond on the revamped golf course among other amenities that will be provided on the campgrounds.

An education fund was established to honor and help Andrew's three young sons. The “Andrew Unterberg Education Fund,” mailing address is 182 Degraw Street, Apt. 3, Brooklyn, New York 11231, or on-line at unterbergedfund.com.
