George Rosenberger, a member of the Hankins-Fremont Fire Department for more than 60 years, was honored on Thursday by the department. A plaque was presented to his wife, Ida during a small ceremony at the fire house.
Walter Sipple, a retired firefighter from the joint department, spoke about George and his contributions to the department over the years.
“He was very meticulous with the work he did for the department,” Sipple explained, “he was community minded, and just a very special guy.”
Walter, who retired from the fire department in 2014 after 60 years, spent many years alongside George, and was very clear about how much he impacted those around him.
“He was a good and faithful servant of the fire department,” Sipple added. “You could always count on George for assistance.”
The Hankins-Fremont Fire Department dedicated their break/meeting room, a room in which George helped create, to the late firefighter, as a reminder of his decades of service.
When presented with the plaque and informed of the room dedication, Ida remarked “I appreciate that. That's wonderful.”
