Fallsburg Town Board discusses spring plans and flu clinic

FALLSBURG - A public hearing continuation was held last week by the Town Board of Fallsburg regarding a proposed Water District extension for Eden Woods Estates, LLC. Jay L. Zeiger, of Kalter, Kaplan, Zeiger & Forman, was present during the hearing and informed the board that, “This is a project that's well underway to being built.” The property, which is located near Zimmerman Road in Loch Sheldrake, plans to include 38 duplex units, a community building, a swimming pool and a tennis court.

The purpose of the hearing was to formalize an agreement that had been made between the estate owners and the town board in which the former would repair Zimmerman road and pay for the installation of a new water line. After the completion of said work, the town agreed to extend its sewer and water districts to include the new development. A motion was passed to close the public hearing.

Steve Vegliante, Town Supervisor, reported that the board is working in conjunction with other local offices and organizations in resolving the water leak that occurred at the FoxCroft Village community last November. He hopes to have this issue resolved as early as possible so that residents can have daily access to clean and fresh water.

Furthermore, Vegliante stated that due to recent weather occurrences, which according to him have “not been the standard weather patterns,” the town has begun planning road repairs for the spring. Along with Councilman Mike Weiner, Vegliante is hoping to travel around the town to survey what areas are in need of road repairs.

The opening of Resorts World Catskills has resulted in an influx of activity throughout the area and has been the subject of many conversations. According to Vegliante, he has noticed an increase of calls to request information on the area's real estate market. “In addition to my role as Supervisor, I maintain a law practice that concentrates on real estate and development,” commented Vegliante. “In that office, I have certainly seen an uptick in real estate including identifying a strong need for decent rental apartments and houses.”

Therefore, Vegliante is confident that the opening of the casino will have a positive effect on not only the county but on the Town of Fallsburg. “I am hopeful that Fallsburg, with its available infrastructure, will benefit from new housing both for sale and rental.” Additionally, “Having water and sewer services in all of our Town hamlets positions us to benefit from both residential and commercial development.”

District 8 Legislator Ira Steingart informed the board and residents that the county has recently received state funding that will be used to combat the current flu epidemic, which has been affecting many residents, including children, the elderly, and those who suffer from other ailments. With these funds, flu vaccinations will be administered to residents throughout the county.
