REGION — As the nation faces one of the biggest public health crises ever, the celebration of the Fourth of July becomes more pertinent than ever. While some fireworks displays have been canceled, some are still happening to pay respect to America's birthday.

Fireworks in Narrowsburg and Honesdale, Pa., as well as the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, will be going on this weekend.

Narrowsburg fireworks will be held Friday evening with a rain date of Sunday. Local businessman Ned Lang has taken on the fireworks for the past five years, with help from sponsor Rick Lander of Lander's River Trips.

“We spent a little more money on them this year because of all the craziness our country has gone through, so people watching fireworks will give them a little spirit back and some pride in their hearts for our great country,” Lang remarked.

People can view the fireworks from the bridge, Main Street or Pete's parking lot. They are shot off from Lang's property near the holiday star decoration.

The Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon continues its tradition of setting off fireworks in a grand display on Saturday at around 9:30 p.m.

“We're hoping for perfect weather so that our guests and local residents can enjoy the fireworks spectacular,” Vice President Paul Carlucci said. “All spectators please wear face coverings and practice social distancing.”

Honesdale's Independence Day fireworks are a local tradition everyone enjoys. COVID-19 attempted to halt this year's celebration in Central Park, but local small business owners Jean and Adam Barziloski have offered the perfect spot to hold a drive-in firework show.

Adam's Hardscape and Excavation located at 703 Old Willow Avenue, is a ten-acre lot with a mountain top view. It is the perfect place to honor Independence Day with fireworks shot high above the area.

The drive-in event will take place on Friday, July 3, with a rain date of Sunday, July 5. You can safely watch the show while parked in Home Depot, Walmart, and Baer Harley Davidson parking lots.

Bold Gold's DNH 95.3 FM will be playing synchronized patriotic music set to the fireworks. Fireworks are set to go off approximately at 9pm. Parking will not be available until after 8pm.

Jean and Adam Barziloski stated, “We want to bring back some sort of normalcy in a safe way within our community and fireworks on Independence Day is the way to do it”.
