MONTICELLO — Three lots in the Thompson Square Mall are coming down to make way for a brand new Marshalls. It was announced recently that the fashion and home goods department store was going to be opening in Monticello.

The Democrat reached out to the developers about an estimated opening date but had not heard back as of press time.

Town of Thompson Supervisor Bill Rieber Jr. said construction was underway in tearing down Brother Bruno's, Kaz's Wines & Liquors and the old movie theater.

The Marshalls will be 21,000 square feet.

“We're pleased to have the first national store being constructed in Thompson since Walmart,” Rieber said. “We appreciate the impact our growing economy is having on this area. And we are pleased to have this additional retail venue for our residents and visitors.”

According to the website of Heidenberg Properties Group, the company that owns the Thompson Square Mall, the shopping center is 127,444 square feet. It has a combined traffic count of approximately 38,000 vehicles per day.

The website states, “Marshalls, Middletown Medical and Subway are taking advantage of the area's rebirth from transformative new developments including the Resorts World Catskills Hotel & Casino, the Kartrite Hotel and Indoor Waterpark, the Veria Lifestyle Wellness Resort located on the grounds of the former Kutsher's Hotel, the new Catskills Urgent Care Center and many more positive developments planned to open in the near future.”
