LIBERTY — A service was held on at the State Police Barracks in Liberty on Friday, Nov. 23 in honor of Sergeant Jeffry T. Edelson.

It is the 15th anniversary of his death and a radio call was made at 1:13 p.m. reporting him out of service (time of his death).

The service was attended by his fellow troopers assigned to Liberty. It was also attended by his parents Steven and Ellen, as well as his sister Lynda.

Sgt. Jeffry T. Edelson, 34, was killed on November 23, 2003 on State Route 55 in the Town of Liberty when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree while he was attempting to enforce the Vehicle and Traffic Law pursuing a speeding vehicle.

Sgt. Edelson was a member of the 178th Academy Basic School Session, graduating on April 27, 1998. After the academy, except for a temporary assignment in Troop L, he spent the remainder of his 6-year career in Troop F.
