Monticello man arrested in stabbing incident

MONTICELLO — Members of the Monticello Police Department arrested a local man in connection with a violent stabbing that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Gimel Kimble, 34, of Monticello, was charged with the felonies of assault in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree. He was also charged with the misdemeanors of criminal mischief in the 4th degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and obstructing governmental administration.

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning, Monticello police responded to a 911 report of two male stabbing victims in the area of Broadway and Jefferson Street in the Village of Monticello.

Responding officers located two males, ages 22 and 30. The victims were both employed with a local Taxi company and were in the process of a shift change in a parking lot when they were approached by another male. That male started a conversation with the two victims and then suddenly produced a screwdriver and stabbed both victims in the face.

Both victims sustained punctures near their left eyes. The suspect then ran off towards Park Avenue. One of the victims was transported from the scene by Mobile Medic Ambulance to Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for immediate medical attention.

At 12:40 a.m., Monticello Police received a report that a man had just kicked and broke a window at a residence on Park Avenue and then fled on foot.

Responding officers determined that the description of that person's clothing also fit the same description of the suspect in the stabbing incident 30 minutes prior.

Within a few minutes, officers located Kimble walking on Prince Street and took him into custody. Upon searching Kimble, officers “recovered from his person a crack pipe and hypodermic syringes,” according to a press release from MPD Lieutenant Mark Johnstone.

Kimble also refused to cooperate with officers during processing procedures at the Monticello police station.

Upon further investigation and a review of video surveillance, officers were able to identify Kimble as the person responsible in the stabbing of the two male victims.

Kimble was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Justice Court before Hon. Josephine Finn and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending further court action.
