Food, gratitude in abundance at Community Dinner

MONTICELLO - On Saturday November 21 the entire Sullivan County community was welcomed at the Second Annual Monticello Community Thanksgiving Meal.

Held at the Monticello High School Cafeteria on Berkeley Avenue, the meal was hosted by The Monticello Community Thanksgiving Meal Committee of Monticello Interfaith Council.

Peter Kunz of Monticello was inspired to create this community dinner when he realized there wasn't anything like it in Monticello last year.

With the support of his church, the United Methodist Church of Monticello and the Monticello Interfaith Council, a collection of faith based organizations in Sullivan County, he was able to achieve this goal. According to Kunz, there were over 1000 meals served, and more than 200 people volunteered to help this happen.

At 12 p.m., with the Rockridge Trio Band playing and volunteers armed with a smile and a kind word, the fellowship begin.

The school cafeteria was transformed into a holiday setting fit for family. Once they sat down, their only job was to enjoy the meal, fellowship, and the music.
