Step into the warmth at the Arnold House

LIVINGSTON MANOR — It may be cold and snowy outside, but inside the greenhouse at the Arnold House it's always a balmy 78 degrees. The fully functioning greenhouse opened last April and is available for events, from weddings to cocktail parties to meetings.

Step inside the glass paneled building and you'll be greeted by a variety of plants and flowers. Director of Gardens Scott Woods filled the greenhouse with tropical and subtropical plants from all over the world. There's hibiscus, fiddle leaf figs, passionflower, jasmine vines and even a banana tree.

Self-described as a “plant nerd,” Woods has an extensive background in botany. His family owns Everlasting Spring Garden Center and he previously worked at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz.

The greenhouse is completely climate controlled, so the plants can thrive in a warm and sunny environment. It's attached to the events barn so guests can have experiences in both places.

The greenhouse was constructed by Damon Sabatini, Owner of S&W Construction, and his team, who work on all the Foster Supply Hospitality projects. Sabatini says owners Sims and Kirstin Foster offer them a sense of creative freedom, making the project fun to dream up.

The state-of-the-art greenhouse features reclaimed wood from the barn and the special ceiling is made of corrugated roofing and the glass windows are from Keller Glass. The team worked through last winter to get the space ready just in time for spring.

It's now available for any event, year-round. The Arnold House property also boasts a dining room, sunroom, tavern, hotel rooms and spa. The greenhouse is also used for workshops, such as terrarium making, as well as yoga and Pilates classes.
