FALLSBURG - Superintendent of Fallsburg Central School District Dr. Ivan Katz wants to remind senior citizens who are eligible for the Enhanced STAR tax rebate program that they must now verify their income to remain in the program. The Enhanced STAR reduces a portion of the school property taxes on seniors' primary residences if they are age 65 or older for the 2019-2020 school year, have a combined income of $86,300 or less, and do not receive another New York State STAR exemption or other state residency-based tax benefits.

To remain in the Enhanced STAR program, seniors must complete the Renewal Application for Enhanced STAR Exemption for the 2019-2020 School Year, RP-425-Rnw, and provide the assessor with copies of tax returns for ALL owners by March 1st. If an owner is not required to file an income tax return, an Income for STAR Purposes Worksheet, RP-425-Wkst, and all 1099 forms may be substituted.

Towns can opt to grant eligible senior citizens an additional reduction in property taxes. If your town participates, the homeowners are 65 or older, and meet certain income limitations, a further exemption may be granted. Please contact your township's assessors' office for information.
