Mountain Jam and other events canceled at Bethel Woods

BETHEL — As the weeks go on, more and more businesses and lives are affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is the next casualty.

Mountain Jam, the rock and roll festival that played for the first time at Bethel Woods last year, was set to play again this May. However, with the growing spread of COVID-19, the festival decided to pull the plug.

“After 15 consecutive years, we will miss all the familiar faces and uplifting vibes that our community shares,” said Founder and Partner of Mountain Jam, Gary Chetkof.

The three-day festival was set to blast off the weekend of May 29, 30, and 31 at Bethel Woods.

Furthermore, Chetkof said the safety of all of their artists, fans and staff is of “paramount importance.”

This year's lineup would have included stars like Brandi Carlile, Grace Potter, Gov't Mule, Greensky Bluegrass, and more.

Bethel Town Supervisor Dan Sturm said, “Mountain Jam being canceled is disappointing, but not totally unexpected in this current environment of uncertainty. We are hoping to return to a normal condition as soon as possible for all our residents and staff.”

This long-time festival previously jammed out at Hunter Mountain before moving to Bethel Woods in 2019 and also featured camping for the weekend.

“We want to thank everyone who has stood by us over the years and look forward to making Mountain Jam 2021 the best festival ever. Stay safe, and we will see you next year,” added Chetkof.

According to Chetkof, tickets for the festival would automatically be refunded at the point of purchase.

Postponements

Mountain Jam is not the only thing canceled or postponed at Bethel Woods due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Museum at Bethel Woods is closed until further notice. The museum was set to open doors to their new exhibit, “Lights, Color, Fashion,” which showcased the psychedelic collection of posters and patterns of the 1960s San Franciso area.

According to Bethel Woods, “While we don't have any confirmed cases connected to the museum, we believe that we must do all that we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our guests and staff, which at this time calls for us to minimize gatherings while maintaining the cleanest environment possible.”

Bethel Woods, according to their website, will show art work from the show and talks from their curator on social media.
