Crystal Run Healthcare lays-off 366 workers

SULLIVAN — According to a New York State Department of Labor, one of the largest healthcare employers in the county, Crystal Run Healthcare, is looking to lay off 366 employees across the Hudson Valley.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic has threatened the health of many people across our community and our country, it has also posed a great economic impact on both essential and non-essential businesses across all sectors, including healthcare,” Chief Human Resources Officer for Crystal Run Healthcare Mary DeFreitas told the Democrat.

In the Sullivan County branches of Crystal Run, 41 employees in Rock Hill and one in Liberty will be affected.

The rest of the layoffs are spread across their other branches in Newburgh, Suffern, West Nyack, New Windsor, Haverstraw, Stony Point, Goshen, Warwick, and Monroe. The largest number of layoffs is coming from Middletown.

The report states this measure will be temporary and will affect those who are not union employees.

“Crystal Run Healthcare made the difficult decision several weeks ago to furlough a group of its employees in areas where there is little to no work,” added DeFreitas.

DeFreitas said those staff who have been impacted had been notified, and many of those furloughed are still currently working on a reduced schedule.

“While we hope that we can soon resume normal business operations, at this time, we cannot say when, or if, we will be able to bring all furloughed employees back to full-time status.

As such, we felt it was our obligation to notify all employees impacted by furloughs of the prospective loss of employment. In addition, Crystal Run has notified the appropriate entities. At the current time, no additional furloughs are planned, and Crystal Run has notified its employees of such,” said DeFreitas.

According to Crystal Run's website, the multi-specialty group practice includes over 400 physicians in nearly 50 medical specialties with multiple practice locations focused on the healthcare needs of the Hudson Valley and lower Catskill region.
