Monticello's Jordan Ruggiero showed off his skills at the BCANY Boys Basketball Scrimmage last week. Monticello hosts Middletown tonight.
SULLIVAN COUNTY -- While schedules may be altered due to the wrath of Mother Nature and Winter Storm Ezekiel yesterday, here's a look at what matchups featuring Sullivan County teams will grace the parquet floor this week.

Tonight's action
Boys Basketball
Middletown at Monticello, 5:30 p.m.
The Panthers will be a force to be reckoned with for the 2019-20 season. Returning several key players including Josh Gattling, Monticello will look to start the season off hot when Class AA Middletown rolls into town tonight. It will be a good test for the Panthers who have a stacked Class A division to contend with this season.

Fallsburg at Livingston Manor, 6:30 p.m.
In a battle of county foes, the Wildcats host the Comets tonight. Fallsburg will look to show improvement this season after a rebuilding year in 2018-19. While Manor lost some key players to graduation, they were the best regular season team in their division last season before getting knocked off by Roscoe in the Class D final.
When these teams faced off at the BCANY Coaches vs Cancer Classic at SUNY Sullivan last February, Manor won big. Will that happen again or will the Comets get revenge? We'll find out tonight.

Girls basketball
Tri-Valley at Ellenville, 6 p.m.
The Lady Bears head to Ellenville tonight in a good challenge for both teams. Tri-Valley made the playoffs in 2018-19 and will look to carry that success into this season. The Lady Blue Devils missed the postseason last year and will look to bounce back.

O'Neill at SW, 7 p.m.
The Dawg Pound will be in for an interesting contest tonight, as the Lady Bulldogs host O'Neill. Both teams made the playoffs in their respective classes last season. While facing a Class B opponent is often a challenge for the likes of a ‘C' school like Sullivan West, the Lady Raiders will travel quite a ways for this one. Combine that with the passionate Sullivan West fans, and both things could be a factor.

Wednesday's slate
Girls Basketball
Manor at Ellenville, 6 p.m.
In their second straight night hosting a Sullivan County team, the Lady Blue Devils will be the first opponent for the Lady Wildcats this season. Losing Lindsey Rau to graduation is a tough blow to Manor, but several other members of the 2018-19 team which captured the Section 9 Class D championship last season will be back and ready to defend their title.

Boys Basketball
Liberty at T-V, 6:30 p.m.
The Bears and Indians both lost some key players from last season, so this non-league county contest is a toss up. Liberty's Kymanni Dennis will be the determining factor. Tri-Valley will have to keep him off the glass to be successful. When these two teams met early in the 2018-19 season, Liberty won big, but in front of the hometown faithful, expect the Bears to be fired up and ready for revenge.

Thursday's games
Girls basketball
Fallsburg, Eldred at S.S. Seward tourney, 5 p.m.
The Lady Comets and Lady Yellowjackets open their 2019-20 campaigns at S.S. Seward's girls basketball tournament.
Depending on matchups, anything is possible. Eldred is bringing back several impact players, while Fallsburg will need new faces to step up.

SW at Schenevus tourney, 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs will be battle tested heading into the Schenevus tournament, since they'd have already faced off against a quality opponent. Win or lose, the tourney in Otsego County will surely prepare SW for the always crucial league contests later in the season.

Liberty at Tri-Valley, 6:30 p.m.
One night after the boys give it their all, the Liberty and T-V girls will take center stage. The Lady Indians made great strides last season, making it back to the postseason for the first time in a few years. This will be their first game of the year, while the Lady Bears will have a game under them, as their showdown with Ellenville will surely help them work off any rust. This should be a good one.

Boys Basketball
O'Neill at Fallsburg, 6:30 p.m.
Sometimes the schedule makers do you no favors, and this is the case for the Comets and Raiders who face off in a league contest during the first week of the season. The Raiders are always a difficult team to face under the toolage of veteran coach Deb Crowe. But with a tough game with Manor under their belt, and the consistency provided by the Fallsburg basketball program and coach Lionel White, the Comets will be tough to defeat at home.

Friday's fare
Boys Basketball
Liberty at Eldred, 6:30 p.m.
The Yellowjackets kick off their season by hosting Liberty. Eldred was a young team last season and all that experience will be valuable as they head into their 2019-20 campaign. As for Liberty, this will be their second game of the year, once again on the road. Will they become road warriors or be bested by the home team? We'll see on Friday night.

SW at Tri-Valley, 6:30 p.m.
Similar to the situation with Fallsburg-O'Neill, it's always tough to have a big league game in the opening week of the season where teams aren't yet at their best. But all you can do is move forward. With only three teams in Class C (T-V, SW and Seward) this game has big playoff implications. The winner of this contest will be in a great position this early in the year.

Monticello at Wallenpaupack tourney, 7 p.m.
As is tradition, Monticello is heading to neighboring Pennsylvania for the Wallenpaupack tournament which kicks off Friday night. The Panthers will be a tough test for all tourney teams. The consolation and championship game is set for Saturday.

Roscoe at Hancock tourney, 7:15 p.m.
The Blue Devils start the quest to defend their 2018-19 Class D crown on Friday as they head to Hancock in tournament action. The consolation and championship games will take place on Saturday.

Girls basketball
S.S. Seward tournament finals, 5 p.m.
Eldred and Fallsburg girls will be in action on Friday in the final round of the S.S. Seward tournament.

O'Neill at Manor, 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Wildcats host O'Neill on Friday in their home opener. They aren't shying away from tough competition, as the Lady Raiders will be their second straight game against a Class B opponent.

Roscoe girls
Merge with Downsville
It should be noted that there will be no standalone Roscoe girls varsity team in 2019. Instead the Roscoe girls have joined forces with Downsville in Section IV.
