Nurse named Rookie of the Week

Fallsburg graduate and Elmira College freshman Rashaad Nurse was recently named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week.
ELMIRA -- Fallsburg graduate and first-year forward Rashaad Nurse of the Elmira College men's basketball team was recently named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week.
Nurse made an immediate impact after being inserted into the starting lineup for the first time this season, as the Soaring Eagles went 2-1 in a trio of Empire 8 contests. In 18.7 minutes per game, he averaged 11.7 points, a team-high 5.3 rebounds, and three blocks, while shooting 50 percent from the field and 81.
8 percent from the foul line.
In his first career start on Tuesday, Nurse helped EC defeat Houghton, 83-64, with seven points, three rebounds, and one blocked shot. He then recorded a career-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting (66.7 percent) and a perfect 3-for-3 effort from the free-throw line on Friday night against Sage. Nurse finished his weekend in Elmira's 71-67 victory over Stevens by pouring in 13 points with a season-high eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
The Queens native has started to hit his stride in recent weeks. The 6-foot-3-inch forward has scored double-digit points in three of his last four games, and in four of the seven contests since the start of the New Year. Since the start of conference play, Nurse has been Elmira's third-leading scorer with an average of 8.7 points.

The Lady Bulldogs were dominant in a 51-21 win against Eldred on Monday. Sabrina Martinez led the way for SW with 23 points. Hailee Kolvenbach scored eight for Eldred.

The Lady Panthers fell to Goshen, 66-22, on Monday.
