Youngsville Man
Enters State Race

By Jeanne Sager
CALLICOON CENTER — October 12, 2004 – The newest candidate for state attorney general is having a coming out party – right in our backyard.
Sean Maloney, a former West Wing advisor for President Bill Clinton, is all set to fill Eliot Spitzer’s shoes when the current attorney general makes a run for governor.
But first the Democrat needs to get out and meet the public – and get the vote.
Maloney shares a Youngsville second home with his partner, wellknown local real estate agent Randy Florke, and their three children.
And on Saturday he will be meeting the public at Hill’s Country Inn in Callicoon Center during an invitation-only reception to support his candidacy.
A prominent New York City attorney, Maloney has represented some high-profile names, from Honduran labor leader Carlos Kellner to the family of Matthew Shepard – the gay man brutally beaten to death in an infamous Midwestern hate crime in the late 1990s.
As a senior West Wing advisor to Clinton, Maloney served as both the youngest staff secretary to a president and the highest-ranking openly gay man on the White House staff.
Maloney earned both his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from the University of Virginia. Besides his work as an attorney, he also took a turn as a business executive, serving as the chief operating officer of Kiodex, a portfolio company.
