Registration for the 27th Annual Delaware Youth Center ‘River Run’ goes live on March 1st. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, July 20th, with the first wave hitting the tarmac at 8:15am.
After 17 amazing years at the helm, Ann Santoro stepped down as Race Director last year. Ed van der Schans stepped into the role to organize the race, along with a dedicated group of volunteers and community members.
Commenting on the race, Mr. van der Schans noted that “last year, the race hosted over 400 participants, competing in either the 5km walk or run, the 10km run or the virtual Gary A. Winglovitz Race. Under Ann’s leadership, the race grew substantially and is a key event in the Callicoon community calendar. I hope to continue that tradition and serve the Delaware Youth Center well.”
The race starts on Callicoon’s Lower Main Street, before heading out on a traffic free River Road, adjacent to the scenic Delaware River, before returning into Callicoon to the finish. The course is flat, fast & is US Track & Field (USTF) Certified.
As the event has grown, so have the costs of hosting the race, so the Delaware Youth Center is incredibly pleased to announce that Wayne Bank has generously stepped up as the Official Timing Sponsor for the 2025 Event. Wayne Bank’s generous donation will cover the cost of the electronic timing, race numbers & race day logistics, the largest itemized cost of the weekend.
Commenting on Wayne Bank’s support, Christine Routledge, Vice President & Sullivan County Regional Manager said, “As a community-focused bank, we recognize the profound impact of participating in events like the River Race. Such gatherings not only foster unity among residents but also provide vital support to local organizations, all while offering an enjoyable summer tradition. Our involvement underscores our commitment to nurturing community bonds and contributing to the collective well-being.”
All funds raised from the race will go towards the upkeep of the facility, and for numerous events held throughout the year.
Last year, through the generous support of our community, local businesses & sponsors, the DYC raised $41,000, a considerable part of the yearly budget. Full details, and the link to register on March 1st, can be found on the DYC website: https://delawareyouthcenter.org/the-river-race.
