A new son enters Pedro's bowling world

Posted

The bowling God's riding on the shoulder of 24-year-old Monticello bowling ace Pedro Agapito III delivered to him and his fiance Angela Scott a 7- pound, 10-ounce baby boy November 16 at 5:18 p.m. at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.

Named Jaylen Nelson Agapito the new born's height was 20 and one-half inches.

Proud grandparents include Pedro's parents, Pedro Agapito Ramos of Monticello and Kimberly Gallagher of Rock Hill and Angela's mother Maureen Scott of Monticello.

I joked with Pedro on Facebook suggesting that he should have Jaylen fitted soon for a new bowling ball.

If Jaylen takes to the game of bowling and follows in the footsteps of his dad the bowling world will have their hands full a number of years down the road.

Noted for his bowling skills, 300 games and 800 series and some pretty hefty averages Pedro probably can't wait for Jaylen to grow to the age when he can introduce his son to a bowling ball and the great sport of bowling.

Most recently Pedro has been riding the 300 and 800 bandwagon that started on September 27 in the Kiamesha Lanes Friday Mixed league and his most recent highlights included a 300 and 800 series that was put in the books on October 21 with scores of 248, 255, 300, 803 on lanes 13-14 in the Kiamesha Lanes Monday Men's league.

Pedro likes his 900 Global Ordance Pearl bowling ball which he has used in his recent scoring.

Bowling for some 15 years, Pedro bowls four nights a week, Monday Men's and Friday Mixed at Kiamesha, Wednesday at Port Jervis Bowl and Thursday at Chester.

His current average for all leagues is 209 at Port Jervis Bowl, 244 at Colonial Lanes in Chester and 249 and 250 at Kiamesha Lanes.

Engaged to Angela Scott, Pedro is employed by Rolling V Bus and Sureway Taxi.

Ed's Outlook

The professional sports of bowling is growing into a healthy financial condition.

Building on this year's strong inaugural season on FOX Sports and bolstered by the recent acquisition by Bowlero Corp., the Professional Bowlers Association has announced a $400,000 boost in prize money for the 2020 Go Bowling! PBA Tour on FOX Sports season.

Every event on the schedule will enjoy prize fund increases and two of the PBA's most prestigious major championships, the PBA Tournament of Champions and PBA World Championship, will now award six-figure first place prizes.

All roads lead towards the PBA Playoffs, with the season's top 24 points earners clinching a spot in the $320,000 event, which again features a $100,000 first place prize.

Entries opened today for the full schedule of PBA on FOX season events, which will all pay a 1-in-3 cash ratio (other than the animal pattern stages of World Series of Bowling XI). Revised competition formats and conditions await, including more dual-pattern events at both classic and new venues around the U.S.

Qualifying and match play rounds of the events will be livestreamed on FloBowling, with the finals on either FOX or FS1. Twenty-three telecasts on FOX or FS1 are live, kicking off with the PBA Hall of Fame Classic on Jan. 19 on FS1. Highlights of the broadcast schedule include three straight majors including the U.S. Open for the first time on FOX during “Big February,” and five-straight days of PBA WSOB XI coverage in March.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo

Repeating a good bowling shot requires bowlers to release the ball the same way shot after shot.

This week we will talk about the release and offer information that will help bowlers of all levels.

A properly executed release is possibly one of the most understood parts of a bowling shot. Most bowlers want to muscle the ball through the release zone and they do this by accelerating or decelerating on the downswing.

The proper release for all bowlers is executed by letting gravity bring the ball from the top of the swing through the release zone with no interference from your arm or shoulder muscles.

If the ball fits properly, the gravity will take it off your hand at the right time providing your body is in the proper position. Any rotation on the ball should come from your hand only ... not your arm.

Using the proper technique will allow you to get as much rotation on the ball as desired.

When your bowling ball does not fit properly this is where it will require excessive grip pressure to hold on to which will make the release harder to execute.

Gravity can be your best friend or worst enemy depending on how you use it.
