A New York State gun law!

Posted

A Rockland County gun club is helping businesses prepare ahead of a new state gun law recently signed by Governor Hochul that is expected to take effect in September of this year.

The New York State Jewish Gun Club is giving “concealed gun carry is welcomed here” signs to Rockland County businesses that want them. TV channel News 12 has reported that dozens of businesses are waiting for them and many already have one.

Meir Omstein, a pizza shop manager, said that this sign means “that people can protect ourselves, our family, and our friends from anything that should happen in case something does go wrong.”

New York state law expected to take effect in September would make it a crime for people to carry a concealed weapon into businesses, unless that business clearly says they’re allowed to do so.

The legislation is in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down a New York gun law.

Onondaga County district attorney, Bill Fitzpatrick, is calling the new gun law unenforceable. Anyone who wants to apply for a license to carry a concealed weapon in New York State will have to hand over access to their social media accounts. “I thought it was somebody pranking me, but sadly it’s true,” said Fitzpatrick. He also said that he and other leaders in law enforcement were not included in decisions about this law. His biggest worry is how to enforce it.

“You know how much money was allocated to the sheriff’s departments in the state of New York to enforce this, and the state police? Not a dime”, said Fitzpatrick.

New York State Senator Joseph Griffo of Rome, NY said, “We want to end gun violence and we agree that there is a real need to get illegal guns off the street. However, the legislation passed by the legislative majority’s in a non-transparent fashion and signed into law by the governor, which we and the public were giving little time to scrutinize, is confusing and crafted it without input from important stakeholders such as law enforcement. This legislation will further burden local governments, hurt small business owners and adversely affect the men and women throughout New York, especially those in upstate communities, who safely and responsibly utilize firearms.”

New York Assembly member John Salka from Brookfield, NY said, “The majority in the state legislature has proven once again they care little for the opinion of those affected by their onerous legislation. Their latest law, restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves, was done without any input from law enforcement, district attorneys or good government groups. This is another example of Governor Hochul pandering to the extreme left to get elected and proves she has no regard for the ruling of the highest court, the Supreme Court, in the land. This is disgraceful.”
