Agapito continues with hot hand!

High Scoring bowlers continue to reach for perfection and this would easily decribe 24-year-old Monticello bowler Pedro Agapito III.

On September 27 in the Kiamesha Lanes Friday Mixed league he pounded the maples for 12 strikes in a row for his 29th 300 game and his 28th 800-plus series.

Continuing to roll a strong strike ball he scored his 30th 300 game on Monday September 30 in the Monday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes.

Bowling on lanes 5-6 and using the same 900 Global Ordance Pearl bowling ball he started the night with a 244, added the 300 and closed with a 215 for a 759 series.

The Sept. 29th total series included a 247, 300, 269 for a 816 and was recorded on lanes 11-12.

Pedro in the Monday Men's league, bowls on the P.N. Alarms team with Ryan Lepke, Charlie Tuttle and David Graham.

When asked if all the strikes were in the pocket, Pedro replied, “yes.”

Bowling for some 15 years, Pedro bowls four nights a week, Monday Men's and Friday Mixed at Kiamesha, Wednesday at Port Jervis Bowl and Thursday at Chester.

His current average for all leagues is 209 at Port Jervis Bowl, 244 at Colonial Lanes in Chester and 249 and 250 at Kiamesha Lanes.

Engaged to Angela Scott, the couple expect a baby due in November.

Pedro is employed by Rolling V Bus and Sureway Taxi.

Last year Pedro took his amateur career into the Professional Bowlers Association arena during the week of April 16 at the PBA Masters Tournament at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

Prior to competing in his first professional competition Pedro said, “My goal is to be there.....have fun....and don't think too much.” Upon his return home Pedro noted, “The tournament was a great experience for me...the shot was tough but I would love to try it again.”

“That Masters Tournament was an experience but it also shows me I gotta push myself harder and not think too much,” Agapito noted.

The proof of the pudding is that he is pushing himself by expanding league competition in both Port Jervis and Chester, and he has indicated he is “looking into some PBA tournaments.”

“I'm gonna be looking to do a few regional tournaments in different places and as of right now would like to be seen by bowling companies and potentially take my bowling in another step.”

Ed's Outlook

Bowling offers many opportunities for the higher average bowlers to make a name for themselves and also to cash in on the top prizes offered.

Such would be the case for these bowlers to consider entry into the New York State Masters Championship at King Pin Lanes in Rome, NY where the first place prize of $2,500 is guaranteed and the champion also is awarded a paid entry to the 2021 USBA PBA Masters and $200 toward expenses.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2020 with qualifying squads bowling five games from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Head to head two-game matches start at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $100 and there is no re-entry.

Those considering entering this event should take immediate action as the event is limited to the first 120 paid entries.

The oil pattern for this championship will be a Sport Condition Smart approved.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo

This week we will discuss advanced bowling techniques for those who consider themselves hardcore bowlers.

Here are several suggestions to improve your game.

• Learn to control your bowling ball speed which can be of great help when adjusting to various lane conditions.

• I hear the word “choke” used a lot and a deep breath to relax you will help your bowling under pressure.

• Learn your bowling ball path...this will help in many ways.

• The mental side of bowling is just as important as the physical side. When you arrive at the bowling lanes use your mind to only think about what you should be doing with the bowling ball.

• Always make sure that your bowling ball is drilled properly.

• Learn to get out of the bowling slump quickly, ask your pro-shop operator for suggestions.

• Make your bowling competition fun.
