Alice Mae Edwards, age 102, of White Sulphur Springs, NY, entered into eternal peace on November 27, 2022. Alice was born on August 23, 1920 in Liberty, NY, the daughter of Edward and Evelyn Kehrley. Alice was the beloved wife of the late Robert Edwards for over 40 years. She was a loving mother to her predeceased son Robert Edwards. Alice cared deeply for her longtime companion, Norman Cross.

Alice is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Schrader, and her three grandchildren, Lisa Edwards, Chan Edwards, and Kim Pazzuti (John). Alice was a devoted great-grandmother to Tanya Huggler (Michael), Robert Ward (Tara), Morgan Davis (Jordan), Devin Pazzuti (Kayla), Madison Pazzuti, and Chandler Edwards. Alice was blessed and proud to have been able to share the lives of her great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Mathew Huggler, Cole and Isabella Ward, and Rori and Emma Davis.

In her early years Alice and husband Robert owned the first Shell gas station in the area. After a short retirement, Alice embraced her true calling which was to nurture and touch the young lives of children. For 37 years Alice was a Foster Grandparent at the White Sulphur Springs and Liberty Elementary School. Alice’s dedication to children was deeply felt and celebrated by many. In 2020, the Sullivan County School Board Association recognized Alice with the “Friend to Education’’ award. Alice was recently honored with the New York State Office for the Aging Exemplary Volunteer Service award.

Alice was a loyal parish member who served the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. She was also a charter member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and her participation in parades would often earn her the “oldest member in the line of march” award. Alice was an avid knitter and continued to share her love and generosity to children and babies throughout the county with her beautiful pieces. Alice not only filled her life with volunteer work but enjoyed time with her beloved friend, Christine Klein, as they played bingo and took trips to the casino.

Alice, known by many as Grandma, loved her family, friends and each child she touched during her 102 years of selfless dedication.

Celebration of life services were held at Stewart Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville. Friends and family called on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Firematic services were held at 7 p.m.

Funeral home services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022, with burial immediately following at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Alice’s life at the White Sulphur Springs Fireman’s Hall after burial services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to White Sulphur Springs Ladies Auxiliary or C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue in honor of Alice and her beloved cat, Baby.
