Anne Stabbert Robisch Foland, a resident of Middletown, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 following a short illness. The daughter of the late Fred W. and Nellie C. Stabbert Sr., Anne was born on July 4, 1926. She was 94 years of age.

Growing up on the heels of the Great Depression, Anne was taught the value of hard work, simple pleasures and strong family ties, values she passed along to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anne lived a long and very full life, engaged with her family, community and many organizations throughout her lifetime. Her proudest accomplishment was her family, which numbered four children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Anne also loved to share her knowledge with others, whether it was through teaching, writing, telling stories of days gone by or showing her friends the secrets of quilting.

A master quilter, Anne made keepsakes for most of her family as well as gifts for those in need and dear friends. She always felt it important to help those she loved and knew needed help, whether by word or deed.

One of Anne's favorite pastimes was cooking, especially desserts. She was famous for the wedding cakes she made for her family's weddings and her Christmas cookies. Whenever Anne was in the kitchen, something good was bound to happen.

She enjoyed history and could recall names, dates and events with great accuracy. Once Anne even appeared on Jeopardy as a contestant and made a good showing, even getting a chance to reappear after her Final Jeopardy answer was ruled incorrect but was really correct. Alex Trebek should have known better than to take on Anne.

She also loved to mention that she turned 50 years old the day the United States of America celebrated its 200th birthday. She was a true firecracker baby.

She penned a column for the Sullivan County Democrat for nearly a decade, titled “Long Ago but Near at Heart.” Her remembrances of her days in Callicoon was very popular and she later published a book by the same title, which included many of her writings and family photographs.

On October 6, 1946 Anne married the love of her life, Gerald “Perk” Robisch of Hortonville, shortly after he had returned home from serving our country in World War II. Anne and Perk would build their home in Callicoon and soon filled it with love and happiness in the names of Tim, Anne Marie, Elaine, and David.

The couple loved their community and were involved in the Delaware Community Center and United Methodist Church activities, as well as Grover Hermann Hospital.

On February 5, 1977, Anne would lose Perk at the age of 55.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Anne would continue her career as an elementary teacher at Delaware Valley Central School, Callicoon, where she started the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program. The program Anne started is still going today, called Literacy Volunteers, through the efforts of the local Kiwanis Club.

Anne retired to the state of Florida and married long-time Callicoon resident Gordon Foland. Mr. Foland passed away in the late 1980s.

Anne later returned to New York to be closer to her family and the place she called home, Callicoon. Anne had a strong faith in God and thanked Him often for her good health, strong family and dear friends. She also loved to visit the Delaware Club in Westbrookville, a place where she rested and enjoyed the beauty of nature.

Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Gerald Robisch and Gordon Foland, her three brothers, Fred Jr., Edwin and Robert Stabbert and grandson, Scott Robisch.

She is survived by her son, Tim Robisch and wife Prudy, of Hopewell Junction; daughter Anne Marie and husband, Tom Willi, of Liberty; daughter Elaine and husband Ken Ernst, of Florida; and son David Robisch and wife, Rene, of Maryland.

Also, grandchildren Jason Robisch and wife Kristen, Kelly (nee Robisch) and her husband, Frank Mazzola, Kristin (nee Ernst) and Alan Hansen, Danny and Jenna Ernst and David Robisch Jr.

Also her great-grandchildren Kate and Madison Robisch, Aiden and Avery Mazzola, Nora Ernst, Davian Robisch, and Katherine and Eric Hansen.

Burial will take place at the family plot in Callicoon Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in Anne's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home Callicoon, NY 845-887-4900. To send condolences please visit stewartmurphyfh.com.
