ROCKPORT – Anne V. Hellevig, age 85, passed away peacefully after a long heroic battle with cancer on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Sussman House in Rockport, ME.

Anne was born on July 20, 1935, to Helen and Joseph Makul of New Haven, CT. In 1956 she married Per Hellevig and they raised five children together in Sullivan County, NY; Lori, Karen, Bonnie, Jack and Tom.

She worked for many years at New York State Electric & Gas in Liberty, NY, where she made many lifelong friendships. Anne was known for her wonderful sense of humor and for being exceptionally tough while facing her various health issues. Proud of her Lithuanian heritage, she also loved to cook for friends and family, and was kind, thoughtful and very generous of her time helping others. She had an unfailing love of God and was an involved member of St Anthony’s Church in Yulan, NY and St Bernard’s Church in Rockland, ME.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband Per and her sons Jack and Tom. She is survived by her daughters Lori Alexander of Rockport, ME, Karen Orpilla of Stratford, CT, and Bonnie Hellevig of San Francisco, CA, grandchildren Allison Trouve, Kelly Orpilla, Nick Hellevig, and Joe Cutolo, as well as her identical twin Adele Volpe of Hamden, CT and siblings Donna Taylor of Reno, NV, Alice Makul of Syracuse, NY, and Joe Makul of Branford, CT, and cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 15, at St Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockland, followed by a graveside service. Following the graveside service there will be a reception held at Lori’s residence in Rockport. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the St. Bernard Soup Kitchen, 150 Broadway, Rockland, ME.
