Arthur Hassis of Jeffersonville, NY passed away on June 21, 2021.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Schuelie, Debbie George and husband Terry, Kathy Welton and husband Daniel.  Art loved his five grandchildren, Shaye Schuelie, Tyler and Trevor George, Amber Welton and Kara Passante and seven great-granchildren. Arthur and Dorothy, who predeceased him,  lived their life to the fullest with traveling, snowmobiling and square dancing.

An avid outdoorsman, Art loved to hunt and appreciated the beauty of the mountains while walking the woods. He was a proud veteran of the Navy and true historian. Art enjoyed being a director of the Cochecton Preservation Society and collaborated with other historic enthusiasts to collect information on one room schoolhouses located in the Sullivan West School District which will be used in a future publication. Art was a 63 year member of the Jeffersonville Fire Department.

The mountains are my bones

The rivers my veins

The forests are my thoughts

And the stars are my dreams

The ocean is my heart

Its pounding is my pulse

The songs of the earth write

The music of my soul
