My friend, Leisha’s parents, were getting ready to fly here from England when her father fell the day before they were to leave. They usually stay for a month when they come here but instead Leisha flew there to help them out and wound up staying for almost a month. It was determined that her dad might need an operation. Leisha decided to fly home and then return if he does need an operation. Leisha’s mom has cancer but it’s in remission. As Leisha says, her mom does not do well on her own. Especially with all that going on.
One of my favorite stories is when I asked her dad how they met. He said he was tending bar at a hotel when Maria walked in and he fell hard for her. When I asked if she was alone or with other people, he told me that he had no idea. In other words, he only had eyes for her. Now at 85, he still compliments her and tells her that he loves her.
On another note, I’ve been trying to get to Callicoon Center for a band concert. I decided to call Kathy Van Grouw to see if she and her parents would like to go and stay at my house for a few nights. Low and behold when I called Kathy, she told me that her parents would have loved that but her father had recently fallen, and he was getting physical therapy so they wouldn’t be able to make it.
My friend, Charlie Dudsak was always telling his wife Dee to be careful not to fall. Dee has since passed away from cancer years ago. I just found out that Charlie, who was up in years, had begun falling a lot and as a result had to go into a rehab facility where he passed away.
A while ago, I decided I should help my son Michael when we got to our house in Callicoon Center by carrying some stuff into the house. I proceeded to fall at the entryway and started laughing at my dilemma, but Mike didn’t think it was a bit funny and pointed out to me that I could have fallen into the cellar where there is a concrete floor. Well, I had to agree that wouldn’t be good so I no longer help him unload the car.
So to all of my readers, be careful not to fall, whether you are elderly or not.
