T-V boys and girls snare Division VI Titles at Ocean Breeze

STATEN ISLAND - One simply runs out of superlatives when trying to encapsulate the meteoric status of Tri-Valley’s tripartite running program comprised of a state championship in cross country this past fall, coupled with its unchallenged ascendance in indoor track this winter, and with a watchful eye towards yet another Section IX spring track title with state contention in the wind. Talk about a renaissance. Not since the halcyon days of the Joe and Missy Iatauro’s glorious reign have we seen the likes of this.

That the Bears swept into Ocean Breeze and captured the OCIAA Division VI boys and girls crowns was certainly no surprise. The boys team is loaded with depth and talent with Adam Furman aspiring to make it two seasons in a row with the state gold medal around his neck. He did not compete in the division championships as the Bears knew they could win without him as he was feeling under the weather. He will punch his ticket to state contention at the state qualifier to be held at the Armory on February 26. The girls came through as well as the results below will clearly demonstrate. Kendall McGregor took first in all of her individual events, as did Amelia Mickelson.

Overall, Tri-Valley combined boys and girls finished an extraordinary second place versus all the schools in the meet finishing just five points behind powerful Class A Cornwall. In Division III, Monticello evinced some fine performances including a first-place in the girls hurdles by Taina DeJesus.
