This is easy to remember: Eleventh month. Eleventh day. Eleventh hour. I’ve managed to put that time aside every Fall, all my life. Many of the men in our extended family served. My Dad served far too many years, through wars, different theaters, and tours in the Army. My elder brother served in the Navy Seabees and actually had it pretty good. The next brother in line served in the Army, reluctantly, and after a short stint in Georgia, was deployed to Vietnam. His tale is not illuminated with fond memories. He has had many a cross to bear for his service, which affected his life, his relationships, his son (complicated medical issues, which doctors assumed his death before one year, but Jesse lived until the age of 26), his ongoing medical issues and carrying the burden of ghosts every, single day... The least and most honorable thing I can do is gather with others and our Veterans and share a moment, a story, or prayer.

Veteran’s Day Services will be held at the Kauneonga Lake Veteran’s Park, aka the Triangle or the Square, on the 11th at 11am hosted by Sgt Andrew Brucher VFW Post 5499.Honoring these brave servicemen and women is meaningful and I’d like to see more folks in attendance to pay tribute to their sacrifice.
