BETHEL— Constable Doug Ketcham of the Town of Bethel passed away from an apparent heart attack on Monday, January 13, while on duty at the Bethel EMS building. Ketcham was found unconscious by two EMS medics returning from a call. They immediately began CPR and rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Ketcham, who was 73, had worked for the Town of Bethel for 47 years. For the last two decades, he worked alongside Bethel Town Supervisor Daniel Sturm, who said the news came as a shock to the community, and he offered his prayers and condolences to Ketcham’s wife, Gail, and family. Sturm praised Ketcham’s legacy and said he will be remembered as “a very highly respected public servant who was friendly and kind.”
Sturm offered a personal anecdote about the “one-of-a kind” Ketcham, who was known to reply with a sarcastic “Whatever...” when a coworker wished him “Good Morning”.
He will be remembered fondly and missed by the Bethel community and all those that he touched with his lifetime of public service.
Please see his full obituary on page 2B.
