ROSCOE –– After taking an undefeated regular season record into the playoffs the combination team of Roscoe and Livingston Manor ultimately fell to Pawling in the 8-man football championship by a score of 34-0. To start their regular season campaign, Roscoe hosted the team that they most recently lost to, which unfortunately for them, repeated history on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils seemed disoriented in the early going, with Pawling taking to the skies for a few early passing touchdowns that put the Devils in a hole early. By the end of the first quarter, Pawling had accrued a 22-0 lead. Roscoe’s defense was tested throughout the game, but after their early struggles, the team settled in and slowed the roll of the defending champions.

With 2:54 remaining in the game, Alaniz Ruiz found Kevin Bear for a 10-yard passing touchdown to cut the lead to 30-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Pawling set their blocks early, facilitating a 74-yard kickoff return touchdown, which would be the last of the day as Roscoe falls to 0-1 after a 38-6 defeat to Pawling.

Blue Devils’ Coach Mike Hill emphasized the importance of gaining experience in these early season games. “We gained valuable experience today, and we have to put in a lot of work to be more competitive. The boys are ready to come to practice this week and work hard.”

Hill also said of the opponents, “Pawling did a great job today. They’re a pleasure to play and they are great sports.”

The Roscoe, Downsville, and Livingston Manor team will look to get back on track next weekend on the road for another non-league game against Spackenkill.
