Bring your household hazardous waste to the Monticello Transfer Station June 8

Free dropoff day for Sullivan County Residents only

MONTICELLO – Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello is pleased to announce that Sullivan County is hosting a residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event next month.

Scheduled for Sunday, June 8, from 8am-2pm, it will be offered at the Monticello Transfer Station’s Scale House area at 91 Landfill Drive.

This is a great time to clean out your household chemicals,” said Perrello. “These items can be dangerous to people and the environment if stored a long time or just thrown out with the rest of the trash.”

The program is open to individuals with residences in Sullivan County ONLY –  photo ID or other proof of residency will be required. There is no charge, and pre-registration is not required.

This event is intended to collect and properly manage residentially-generated hazardous household materials like herbicides, pesticides, mercury-containing items, cleaning products, pool chemicals, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, paints, solvents, acids, bases, automotive batteries, antifreeze and preservatives, just to name a few. Please note that tires, refrigerators, electronics, ammunition, radioactive material and medical waste will not be accepted at this event.

For any questions, contact Recycling Coordinator Kassie Thelman at 845-807-0291or recycling@sullivanny.gov,
