Carl Mayer, age 76 of Barryville, N.Y., passed away Friday, February 28, 2025 at home. Carl was born on July 18, 1948 in East Orange, New Jersey to Herbert A. and Dorothy Mayer.

Carl’s family later relocated to Eldred, N.Y., where he was raised along with his brother Kurt.

After graduating from high school Carl enlisted in the Marines, serving in Vietnam. He went on to serve two combat tours with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines (nicknamed the “Magnificent Bastards”) during the height of the war. Carl received the Vietnam Service Medal with five bronze stars; the Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Unit Citation; Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm; Combat Action Ribbon; and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

Upon returning home he became a police officer in Fallsburg, NY. He would later become a computer operations manager at Prudential, from where he retired.

Founding member and Vice President of the Highland Hooker’s Bass Club. Carl was a life member of Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club. As an avid sportsman, who loved hunting, fishing and participating in clay sport shooting competitions, many friendships were made along the way. As an avid bass fisherman, he competed in and won many bass tournaments. His home was referred to by his friends as the “Club House” where most weekend mornings the driveway would be filled with pickup trucks of friends having coffee and sharing stories and bragging rights. Carl was always quick to offer help without hesitation. Whatever you needed at the last minute he was sure to have it. He will be sadly missed by all.

Carl was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother Kurt Mayer and sister-in-law Christine Campbell Mayer; niece Alicia Mayer and fiancé Eric and great-nephews Mason and Logan Mayer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 3 pm to 6 pm. Funeral Service will begin at 6 pm with the Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 SR 97, Barryville, NY 12719.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 10 am - 10:30 am at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held at 11 am at Montoza Cemetery in Barryville, NY.
