Charles Allan Benson, 79, of Monticello, NY, passed away on April 12, 2025, after filling nearly eight decades with laughter, adventure, and innovation. Born in Bayshore, NY, on August 24, 1945, to Frank and Ethel (Little) Benson. He earned his RN degree from SUNY Farmingdale in 1966 where he was the President of the Student Senate.
After working as a nurse in several New York State Hospitals, Charlie moved Upstate to Sullivan County where he was a businessman for 30 years, running several skilled-nursing facilities. He provided care for thousands of people, and treated his employees like family.
He served as a volunteer firefighter for the North Branch Fire Department. He also had a need for speed. He enjoyed hydroplane boat racing (Bad Boy Racing GP69), drag racing, and pleasure boating on Swinging Bridge Lake in the company of his family and dear friends.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy of friendship and unforgettable stories. He had a magnetic presence and mischievous grin. To know him was to laugh with him. He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary (Fazio) Benson, 5 children Charles Benson, Jr (Raffaela), James (Melinda) Benson, Robert (Jennifer) Benson, Janel Benson (Tom Cambier), Timothy (Amber) Benson, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held at Rock Ridge Cemetery.
