County getting Bridge NY funding

Posted

SULLIVAN COUNTY –– Division of Public Works Commissioner Ed McAndrew announced at last week’s Sullivan County Legislature Executive Committee meeting that the County is being awarded just over $9.2 million at 95 percent funding for replacing County Bridge 82 in Forestburgh and County Bridge 77 in the Town of Highland. County Bridge 82 is the last bridge before you get to Orange County on Oakland Valley Road, and County Bridge 77 is over “Taxpayer’s Pond” in Yulan.

The funds come from the State Department of Transportation’s Bridge NY program, which helps local governments rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts statewide.

“The bridges were in need of replacement for quite a while now,” McAndrew told the Democrat.

He added that they’ve been repairing them, and that County Bridge 82, especially, has outlived its youthful life.

"It hasn’t been that it’s unsafe but we’re constantly working on it,” said McAndrew.

County Bridge 77 has a dam associated with it, which is part of the project. According to McAndrew, it needs a larger spillway in order to fullfil NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requirements.
