STONE RIDGE -- It was a big weekend for high school wrestling as the Section 9 Division I and II Wrestling Tournaments were held at Monroe-Woodbury HS and SUNY Ulster on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

When all was said and done, two county kids are headed to the state tournament at the Times Union Center in Albany on February 28-29. They are Eldred-Liberty-Sullivan West's Joey Curreri and Hunter Roberts. Curreri took first at 120-lbs by beating his finals opponent by fall in just 49 seconds, while Roberts earned top marks at 195-lbs by pinning his finals opponent in one minute.

Other impressive performances included ELSW's Henry Peters taking third at 182-lbs by 7-3 decision, and Quintin Herzog at 106-lbs who earned his way into the third place bout, falling just short of a top three medal.

As a team, ELSW finished seventh in Division II with 85 points.
