Decorated former State Police Senior Investigator Tim Dymond launches campaign for Sullivan County Sheriff

NEVERSINK – Experienced and decorated New York State Police Senior Investigator Tim Dymond today launched his campaign for Sullivan County Sheriff in this year’s election. He made the announcement a day after his official retirement from the State Police, following two decades of service in law enforcement. Dymond was born and raised in Sullivan County and, as a lifelong Republican, plans to run on the Republican ballot line.

“I was born and raised here in Sullivan County, and have spent my adult life protecting our communities. As an Investigator and Senior Investigator of the State Police, I led some of the most complex narcotics and firearms cases in our region,” added Dymond. “I have the experience needed, and have the energy and skillset to modernize the Sheriff’s Office to make Sullivan County families safer.”

“It’s time for a change. Sullivan County has one of the highest drug overdose rates per capita in New York. Violent crime is rising and it is abundantly clear that the status quo is not working,” said Dymond. “I’m running for Sheriff to bring new leadership and a modern approach to law enforcement in Sullivan County.”

A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, Dymond was born and raised in Neversink and graduated from Tri-Valley High School. He began his law enforcement service with the NYPD in 2005 patrolling dangerous neighborhoods in the Bronx. He later served as an officer with the Fallsburg Police Department before joining the State Police in 2008 (graduating at the top of his Recruit Class). In 2012, he was named Troop F “Trooper of the Year”.

Yesterday Dymond retired from the State Police with the rank of Senior Investigator and as a longtime member of the Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team. During his tenure, he worked extensively as an Undercover Officer and ran complex investigations that removed illicit drugs - including heroin, cocaine, meth and fentanyl - from our streets.  He has been the lead Investigator on murder, rape, robbery and child abuse cases that put dangerous criminals in State Prison.

“Heavily flawed criminal justice changes passed over the last five years, especially Bail Reform, have forced most police agencies to adapt and improvise to overcome the shortfalls. Unfortunately, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has not adapted,” added Dymond. “A quick drive down Broadway in Monticello will show anyone with eyes and ears how bad the opioid crisis has become. It is more important now than ever that we have strong local leadership in law enforcement.”

Beyond his 20 years of active law enforcement experience, Dymond has also served as President of the New York State Police Investigators Association for the past four years. In this role, he led and represented personnel from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) across the state and managed staff, vendor contracts and a multi-million dollar annual budget.

Aside from his professional career spent protecting the public, Dymond has been a longtime active community volunteer here in Sullivan County. He has volunteered as a youth football, basketball and soccer coach, and serves as the Vice President of the Tri-Valley School Board. He lives in Neversink with his family and can be regularly seen at his children’s games all over the county.

Republican Primary Election Day is June 24, 2025. The General Election will be held on November 4, 2025. Early Voting and Absentee Voting will be available for both elections.
