DeGraw gets first 300 in new league

Posted

Twenty-nine year-old Vincent DeGraw has put himself in the new Monday Night Mixed league record books as being the first bowler in the new league at Port Jervis Bowl to score a 300 game.

The new league, consisting of bowlers from the former Kiamesha Lanes Monday Men's league, Tuesday Mixed Fireman's league and the Friday Mixed league reorganized following the sudden closing of Kiamesha Lanes, which was sold to become a supermarket, and started the new league for Sullivan County bowlers on October 25.

For Vincent, a resident of Woodbourne, this 300 score was also his first career 300 game and was bowled November 1 on lanes 11 and 12 using a Storm Invasion bowling ball.

This bowling ball is the pinnacle of strong reacting and high performance bowling balls in the Storm family. This ball features an aggressive Reactor cover-stock.

Vincent bowls on the Bob The Builder bowling team with teammates Mikey Travis, Jason Jones and Tasha Travis.

His current average is 179 and he only bowls in this one league.

Vincent noted that not all the strikes were in the pocket.

He has been bowling for 13 years. His total series was 681 off single games of 215, 166 and 300.

Vincent is married with three children and is employed at Camp Nitra in Woodbourne.

Ed’s Outlook

Though the formats may be a little different in 2021, Team USA's goal for the upcoming International Bowling Federation Super World Championships is unchanged. That goal is to win as many medals as possible against the best bowlers in the world.

Eight members of the team have departed for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where competition from dozens of countries will meet to compete for medals in singles, doubles, trios, mixed team and team competition.

The list of women selected to represent the United States includes Kelly Kulick, Danielle McEwan, Missy Parkin and Jordan Richard. The men's team includes Andrew Anderson, Jakob Butturff, AJ Johnson and Kristopher Prather.

Bowling Tip by Mike Luongo

Posture and balance are proper techniques for establishing good bowling scores.

One of the main things to be taken into account in order to help your bowling game is posture.

It must be strongly stressed that maintaining proper posture includes a position that implies conditioning strong muscles, keeping your head up and shoulders kept in a straight position according to the body.

When you take the ball in your hands, it is recommended to have it formed a 90 degree angle with the legs and the rest of the body. This will give you more strength in the hip, and more dexterity in what concerns the fingers as they should be kept straight in the holes of the ball.

Furthermore I want to take a moment to talk about balance.

Balance is one of the basics when it comes to bowling. Even if you feel your body tensions, your body must balance from one point to another in order to be able to focus your energy upon a certain point.

When you release the ball, all your energy has to focus on your left or right foot and, if your body is not balancing properly, you may risk sharing only half of the required energy which will lead to a lower release level and, consequently to a slow ball which will not be able to hit the targets.

Work is important on posture and balance.
