Delaware changes shred date, Litter Sweep still a go

HORTONVILLE  — The date for the Town of Delaware’s garbage shred has been moved to the Fall, with specifics yet to be announced. However, despite the event’s date being pushed back, Spring cleanup will still be on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m.- 4p.m. at the Town Highway Department on Route 17B in Hortonville.

“We’re still working on a date; I didn’t realize shredding was so popular,” Town Clerk Tess McBeath explained.

In partnership with the Upper Delaware Council, the Town of Delaware is also hosting the 2025 Upper Delaware Litter Sweep on Saturday, April 12. All supplies will be provided, including a safety green t-shirt and “Litter Leader.”

The Town Clerk encourages those who wish to volunteer their services to contact McBeath at delawaretown clerk@hvc.rr.com.

The event is dedicated to “Queen of the Delaware,” Ruth Jones, an activist who spent her life hiking and paddling in the region and leading initiatives to clean up the Delaware River.
