Dennis Patrick “Lenny” Sheehan, of Smallwood, NY, passed away on February 23, 2025, at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, NY. He was 74 years old.
Born on May 22, 1950, in Queens, NY, Dennis was the son of John Sheehan and Maxine Rymer. He was raised by his mother and Joe Haley, whom Dennis always considered to truly be Dad in his heart.
Dennis was a dedicated aircraft mechanic who worked for several aircraft companies, where he played a vital role in building military aircraft. His love for craftsmanship extended beyond his profession; he had a passion for woodworking and masonry and enjoyed taking on leadership roles wherever he went. Dennis’ strong will and dry sense of humor made him a unique individual—often keeping others on their toes with his playful tricks and witty remarks, even if you couldn’t tell if he was joking or not.
A family man at heart, Dennis was kind, generous, and always ready to lend a hand or give someone the shirt off his back. He was deeply devoted to his loved ones, especially his daughters Maxine and Elizabeth Sheehan, and his grandchildren Aubree, Jordan, and Jayden. Dennis also had a special place in his heart for his cat, Lucy, and his grand-puppy, Luna.
In his earlier years, Dennis was a boxer and remained athletic throughout his life. His love for physical activity extended to his involvement with the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department, where he found fulfillment in serving his community. He was a man of strong convictions, always standing up for what he believed in.
Dennis is survived by his daughters, Maxine and Elizabeth Sheehan; their mother, Rita Sheehan; his grandchildren, Aubree, Jordan, and Jayden; his siblings, Jack Sheehan and Kathleen Neuenhoff; as well as his beloved cat, Lucy, and grand-puppy, Luna.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis’s memory to Catskill Animal Rescue (CARE), 263 Old Monticello Road, Ferndale, NY 12734.
