Life is full of mysteries. There are so many things that have no logical explanation. They just happen, and we are left scratching our heads in bewilderment.

One thing I’ve always wondered about is where all those lost socks go. Sometimes one will show up static-stuck inside a pair of pants, but often they just go missing, never to be seen again. Do they somehow get sucked inside the inner workings of the washing machine or the dryer? We’ll never know. I just hope that wherever they are, they’re happy. And don’t bother to come home, little socks, because I threw your mates in the garbage. Sorry.

Another mystery of life is how a pan of brownies can disappear. I’m not sure how it happens, but if you leave a knife in an unsupervised pan of brownies, I will almost guarantee that slowly that the ratio of brownie to pan will decrease until the brownies take up 0% of the pan. Another of life’s unsolved phenomena. (I suggest looking for a trail of chocolate crumbs.)

My iPhone also likes to hide from me. Not sure exactly why, but I use the “Find my iPhone” app on my Apple Watch about three times a day. Back in the days when I still had a landline, I had three cordless receivers which also liked to play hide and seek. At least one of them was always AWOL, stuck in a chair cushion letting its battery run out.

Another handy electronic item that can be sneaky is the TV remote. Considering that each television in the house has its own particular array of remotes and esoteric procedures to make the television turn on, this can be quite distressing. There is no longer the option of getting up to turn the television on or change the channel by hand, as it were.

Since I’m getting to the age when I can hide my own Easter eggs, with a mild case of CRS (Can’t Remember Stuff), I have trouble locating things all the time. Where did I put that book? I know I walked up here with a book…where did I set it down? These wild goose chases can keep me busy for days.

I don’t let it bother me though. I figure things will turn up when I least expect them. And then I will remember that I thought about bringing up the sheets from the dryer when I decided to go upstairs and then the phone rang and I chatted with my sister who was telling me about a movie she just saw and then I remembered that I had turned on the teakettle and was going to make myself a cuppa when I heard a knock on the door and remembered that my package was arriving today and by now I had walked upstairs but didn’t remember why until I saw the unmade beds. And look—there is that book I’ve been searching for—on the dresser in the guest room. Guess I set it down when I was taking off the sheets.

Now where was I?
