LIVINGSTON MANOR — Ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and comic books…oh my! And they are all free through your public library! Sullivan County’s library cardholders can access novels, non-fiction titles, magazines and comics with easily downloadable apps. Sound challenging? Free training is also available.

With your library card you get access to the digital collections found on Libby, a user-friendly app from OverDrive, and the newly-available Comics Plus, an all-comics app produced by Library Pass.

Your library’s digital collection is available on the device of your choice. Choose your genre or choose from over 3,000 English-language magazine titles and another 1,000 in one of twenty other languages! Sullivan County public school students can borrow digital items through SORA, their school’s digital media platform. Look for the “add a public library” feature.

Audiobooks have gotten me through many long drives, Saturday afternoon housecleanings, and fall leaf rakings. Whether you choose audiobooks or ebooks, it can be very satisfying to overcome a bit of technophobia to be able to carry a library book around on your phone.

To learn how, look for a Libby expert in your library or attend an online demo on your own. Now through January, Overdrive is offering monthly virtual demonstrations. Register for a one-hour “Getting Started with Libby” webinar, and learn with the pros! This webinar will show you everything you need to know to get started from downloading the app and signing in, to searching and borrowing titles and adjusting reading or listening settings. Webinars will take place on November 2, 2p.m., December 7 at 11a.m. and January 11 at 2p.m. More information and registration can be found here: bit.ly/3Dlw61Y.

New this fall, you can also access thousands of digital comics, graphic novels, and manga with your library card by installing the Comics Plus app. Login with your library card and PIN (generally the last four digits of your phone number). Roughly 20,000 titles are available in the full collection with 13,000 in the K–12 categories, now featuring comics for the spooky season! Users can select the children’s collection or choose the full collection with the option to  filter each category by age, language (English or Spanish) and publisher. You can also find Comics Plus here: bit.ly/3TLyW7k.

Whether you choose Libby, Comics Plus, or both, you will find lots to borrow and, oh my….No late fees!
